Robert Mars

Robert Mars, born 1969 in New Jersey, is an American contemporary visual artist who memorializes American objects and icons of the past with signature pop art style. Mars uses vivid colors, collage, and resin to successfully merge iconic american pop art aesthetics with traditional folk art designs. a graduate of parsons school of design in new york, mars has built a career on his unyielding interest in pop-culture icons, traditional quilting techniques, and iconography of the ‘golden age.’ Mars uses images of celebrities such as Elvis, Jackie Kennedy, and Marilyn Monroe juxtaposed with geometric motifs inspired by quilt patterns and detailed with layers of thematic vintage magazine clippings. His work exudes a lively energy that playfully reminds his viewers of the brilliance of America's past. The interlocking relationship between celebrity, tradition, and consumerism is an on-going exploration throughout mars’ work; and a relationship that still defines main-stream American culture today. Mars currently lives and works in Connecticut where his unique artworks take shape with layers of history and ultra glossy finishes.
